SUTA Appealing to the Universities Abroad to Ease Application Process for Student from Iran

Due to the recent protests in Iran against the government, authorities often restrict internet access throughout the country to prevent the circulation of the news.  As a result, students that are applying to universities abroad may encounter intermittent problem in filling application forms online. The Iranian government has also substantially increased the fee for release of the students’ academic records in recent months. This is amidst an economic crisis in Iran that has led to devaluation of the Iranian currency compared to foreign currencies making the application fee and fees for taking GRE and TOEFL unaffordable for many applicants. Even if applicants afford the exam fees, the internet instability is often preventing them from taking the exams.

To ease the application process for the students facing difficulties in applying to the universities abroad due to the above situation, we are suggesting that the universities:

1.    Waive the application fee

2.    Waive GRE and/or TOEFL exams requirement

3.   Conditionally accept unofficial transcripts

4.   Extend application deadlines

Of course, universities can require applicants to take any competency exam and provide official transcripts once they arrived to the universities.

In these difficult times in Iran, helping with any of the above items would be a big support for prospective graduate students from Iran to have the opportunity to pursue their academic goal.
